Another example of the mystery created in something so simple is when the light is right to bring out both the texture and subtle colors and just the right composition. The broken shutter gives the right amount of mystery about who might be peering out!

Another warm Santa Fe sunset against the stucco of the Inn at Loretto Taken on a winter’s day, this so represents living in Santa Fe, NM. Warm, inviting textures and tonalities.

I was thrilled to capture this natural light. It was the blackest sky I had ever seen, and then the Sunlight broke through the clouds creating this once-in-a-lifetime spectacle.

It’s wonderful to photograph or be among and experience the migrating birds galore in Bosque del Apache Refuge.

Off the Turquoise Trail in Santa Fe County, I used this sunset image for my first album on the inside jacket cover design, Think Twice. It is one of the most beautiful U.S. scenic highways.

Cold and raging, this powerful one-hundred-and-thirty-foot Waterfall is at the end of a remarkable six-mile hike. One will find over twenty-five historical points of interest along the creek, ranging from petroglyphs to predinosaur flora.

While en route from Albuquerque to Boulder, my mission was to capture the golden aspens in full fall color. However, as often happens in the spirit of exploration, I was fortunate to find this wonderfully rich textural wall.

This image is part of an ongoing series depicting trees and flowers that grow in obscure, extraordinary places. Looking closely at the center and lower third of the photograph, you will see a thirty-five-foot tree surviving and thriving in the most unlikely places.

I am most proud of the double light shaft breaking through this slot canyon. The intense color is a product of the sun’s angle and the reflected light casts off the canyon floor. A Sacred place to the Navajo, this spot is believed to be Mother Nature’s womb.

Magical landscapes, and trails make you feel as if you could be walking on the moon. One of my favorite National Parks.

I first arrived at this site, and was told they were making a movie and I couldn’t get access. As it turned out, it was a blessing in disguise, as I would be the first photographer to gain access and the crew had spent their down time removing the walls of graffiti. It was pristine.

California coastline’s Mariners have been guarding the lighthouse since 1872. The lens alone is 16 feet tall.

The combination of compressing this scene with a telephoto lens, and the play of light off the wall helps to create an almost surreal feel, where the wall starts to appear as if it is cylindrical.

I captured the gorgeous Spanish mission and bougainvillea in the early morning light with a little help from the mission’s master gardener.

The adventure of walking into the dunes every morning for four hours in the moonlight is one I will always cherish. Every day, as you can see from the images, was a completely new visual experience. Trapped in the storm, I took refuge in and amongst the bushes to help break the sandblast.

The desert is in a constant state of change, which is just one of the exciting elements of capturing an
image that is timeless, one moment in time that will never be repeated again.

While monitoring the sunrise for a completely different shot, this incredible moment developed. I swung my tripod around and captured one of the most spectacular sunrises ever. I only took one shot and then returned to what I had originally intended. Lesson learned, to keep my eye and mind open.

I couldn’t resist photographing the most delicate soft pink light. The mountain’s peak is named after Zabriskie, who, during the Gold Rush led many miners to their safety through the Manly Beacon Landmark.

This image so represents everything typical of a small Greek village. The architecture, the stairways, brilliant blue skies, umbrellas on balconies, and even the broken pot.

Coming up the walk, I could not see what was just around the bend. these brown wooden windows were gloomy
and then before I knew it I was around the corner relishing in this vivid blue doorway.

On the first of every May, just before Easter, the buildings are freshly whitewashed. This, along with working the light from dusk to dawn over three days, is what gives this image a watercolor appearance.

An example of the Greek celebration of Easter is when they apply multiple tonal washes of color to highlight the festivities.

The balance, color accents and leading lines direct one’s attention toward the rooster and are geometrically pleasing.

In the Greek language, Ble Borta means blue door. Having that as my focal point, and set against the different wall textures, is a complimentary background for the vivid geraniums.

The dried husk is a typical doorway in the little town of Finikia, a sign of good luck. The subtleties
throughout this composition, soft light drew me into this moment.

The dark brown spots in the wall are volcanic rocks and are primarily used for decoration and design. The use of small boulders as a doorstop is very typical.

This muti-story grouping, with its light shafts, balconies, and colored columns supporting the roof, contained not only the Royal suites of the King and Queen and sacred places of worship but also
the artist’s workshops.

The lake region of this most beautiful and diverse country is a great example of sweet light personified. When contrast is down, the luminosity and its effect on the film and the viewer are harmoniously impacted. Evenfall is a European term used to describe just that.

I felt lost in time as I came upon this charming setting, not only the pink house but the ox cart with wooden wheels. The individual panes of glass reflect not only eucalyptus trees but also individual abstract designs. This is my tribute to Alfred H. as it’s also a self-portrait (if you look closely).

I purposely selected a 200mm telephoto lens to compress the tree against the wall, making it not only more
interesting graphically.

The subtleties and simplicity help contribute to a very peaceful early morning moment.

I came upon this scene and knew I wanted to make a long exposure to get the water looking like a smooth piece of glass.

in an attempt to exaggerate the grain and give it a more pointillistic feel.

While attending one of my favorite schools of Photography in Rockport, the mornings at Camden Harbor
couldn’t have been more magical.

This image is a small section—smaller than the palm of my hand—of a two-hundred-year-old tombstone photographed while attending a workshop in Rockport, ME. Vinal Haven Island is just off the coast of Rockland, ME.

One of my favorite photographs from Venice; just able to capture this very gray day against the reflected harbor lights.

Sunday morning in the rain, this gentleman strolling in his deep blue suit under his umbrella as he
strides to Sunday Mass.

I learned a technique from a Yugoslavian street photographer to find an interesting setting first,
and wait for life to happen. This image, to me, is close to creating a perfect composition, accomplished
by using dark shadows and light to direct the viewer’s attention.

Playing with the abstract nature of this unique natural occurrence and using my Hasselblad with a 150mm lens I was able to capture the movement of water and nature at its best.

Looking South at Sunrise, I’m photographing on the edge of a thirty-eight-story high-rise above Lake Shore Drive while balancing on a three-foot ladder and the knee wall. Looking closely along the horizon, you will see a smoke stack and lights shining from Indiana.

It took many visits to capture this sunset balancing and reflecting in those spectacular brass doors. I had to use supplemental handheld flash fill to enhance the value of the sundial sculpture in the foreground.

As the white-capped waves break on Oak Street Beach, you can see the famous 90-year-old Drake Hotel and generations of architecture.

I easily get caught up in the play of light, as in the little diamond plate and rivet highlights
in the stair’s shadow. I can feel the stairway pulling off the tank and up towards the beyond.

What is most interesting to me is that you can see decades of architecture that are represented, not to mention the gift of early morning light.

Bond Chapel is the best example of why I love photographing doors and windows. Not only the realistic character of the warm and rich tones of the wood but the transcendent quality one gets from the idea of “Passages” and the mystery and wonder that is conjured up.

This is one of my favorite views of the Chicago skyline. Shooting with a Fuji panoramic camera from the Adler Planetarium, it is a one-minute exposure that creates the illusion of glass-like water.

Luckily I could get access to the rooftop to capture this magical light show using a fisheye lens to get both sides of the river. This is my favorite time of day when the natural sweet light (when contrast is such that everything seems to glow) is combined with the artificial lights, and the balance between the two can be simply amazing.

Natural light combines with city lights to create my favorite time of day—just as the 333 Building reflected the sunset.

I stopped traffic on this one! Early Sunday morning, before participating in the Highland Park Fine Art Show, I stopped my van on Michigan Ave. and set the tripod up on top of the van to get this vantage point.

Commissioned by Storck, Werther’s candy makers, I spent two months flying over rooftops in a helicopter to explore Chicago again. Falling in love with this city is easy when I appreciate what went into the city’s architectural decisions.

This horse trail goes non-stop all the way from Chicago to Wisconsin. This spot, in particular, is a very special place to me, because every year, my daughter and I would visit and explore this very spot.

This 250-year-old oak tree stood outside the home I built in Lake Forest, Illinois. I turned the house 7 degrees to be able to see this tree out every window.
